Is Pretend more than just Play?

Pretend City Children’s Museum is Where Imagination and Education Come to Play!

Pretend City Children’s Museum provides children with unlimited opportunities to develop creativity and learn through purposeful play. Through 17 interactive exhibits and activities guided by a highly trained professional staff, children learn foundational math, reading and science skills, while fostering curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, organization, teamwork, self-confidence and socialization. But did you know that we are also a 501©3 community funded, non-profit organization? We rely on community support in order to provide educational programs and events, offer free admissions for underserved schools and families and operate and expand the museum. Meet the Andrews, our "green" featured family!

The Andrews Family moved into the Pretend City Our Home Exhibit on Earth Day! From the City of Orange, The Andrews Family truly believes in and practices a green way of living. We hope they will inspire all Orange County Families. The Andrews make greener lifestyle choices each day such as using homemade non-toxic cleaners for their home, using green personal care products, buying local and living off their own land, utilizing an at home recycling system, and making their purchases at garage sales and thrift stores to promote the importance of reusing products.

Spring 2012 - Meyers Family

Another interesting aspect of their story is that they are bee keepers who work to rescue bees and preserve their habitats and the precious honey they produce. Rescuing bees results in promoting the greening of our planet through the bee’s pollination process as well as adding to the natural production of honey and important bi-products!

Through highlighting the Andrews’ lifestyle, Pretend City hopes to increase awareness about the critical nature of making greener lifestyle choices at home, provide accurate information on reducing and recycling waste, and positively impact the awareness and habits in our community.

Pediatric Literacy

How to choose the right book for your child’s development!

When: Monday, May 21
Time: 9:00 – 10:00 a.m.

What books should you choose for your child that will help to develop important developmental milestones? Join Dr Geeta Grover, M.D., a Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician from the American Academy of Pediatrics, Orange County Chapter, in learning how and why it is important to promote children’s literacy development. Research has proven that the more children are read to at a young age the better vocabulary they will have by age 3. Dr. Grover uses this knowledge and incorporates the importance of developmental milestones to provide parents with the tools needed to encourage literacy growth.

Developmental Screenings - Mothers Helping Mothers

This Mother's Day, celebrate motherhood by helping Orange County moms in need. HomeAid Orange County's annual donation drive, Essentials for Young Lives®, is May 4 – 11th. The drive, conducted in partnership with the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, collects "essential" items such as diapers and baby hygiene products which are distributed to families by 16 agencies that operate shelter facilities serving homeless families across the county. Bring a donation to Pretend City between May 4 and 11 and get a complimentary VIP pass for your next visit to the museum!

Did you know?

There are more than 400 babies or toddlers at any given time during the year in the Orange County shelters that HomeAid Orange County supports? And while 97% of mothers in the U.S. surveyed agree that keeping their child in a clean diaper is one of the most important things they can do as a mother, many mothers struggle to provide enough clean diapers for their children's daily needs. Maybe that's because on average, a baby will use over 3,000 diapers in one year! The good news is that it's easy to make a difference in your local community!
