“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” This year the theme is green for a very special 2012 Read Across America celebration. NEA’s Read Across America campaign will showcase The Lorax book. So join us as the Pretend City Goes Green Initiative gets a special Dr. Seuss twist with these fun activities:
• Surprise by Seuss: One, Two, Three…what could it be?! – This surprise activity will have your toddlers getting foot loose! Make sure to stop by to check out this surprise activity.
• Sensational Story Time: The Lorax – Join us for special readings of Dr. Seuss’ classic The Lorax and other environmental books. Your early readers will enjoy the follow-up Truffula Tree bookmark making activity!
• Smart Art: Recycled Reading Hats – Hats say a lot about who we are. This special hat tells everyone you like to read, reuse and recycle!
• Seussical-Science: Great Gardens – With a better understanding of the concepts of time and future, your 5 year old will enjoy this science activity. After exploring the life cycle of a tree they will have their very own gardening experience.
Play Partner: Pretendgineers and BrainBuilders; our experienced stage staff of trained early childhood and development educators.
Grown-up Tip: What’s more fun than playing a silly copy game to celebrate Dr. Seuss?! “Bee, zim, zop”! See if your child can copy you. Let your child make up a silly phrase and you say it back. Your child will build on their ever growing vocabulary while using their communication and creativity skills.
