Join Pretend City volunteer ballet dance instructor, Sydney Tsao, as she teaches dances from the classic ballet The Nutcracker. This 4 session class will begin with a short ballet warm-up and will focus on learning some of the original choreography of The Nutcracker, including Waltz of the Snowflakes, Polichinelle (Mother Ginger), and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. The final recital will take place on Pretend City’s amphitheater stage complete with sweet sugar plum treats and an opportunity to view The Nutcracker Ballet. Whether starting a new tradition or continuing a long-standing one your child will enjoy participating in this holiday ballet class. The Nutcracker is a magical, memory making experience for all ages, with an army of mischievous mice, a bevy of bon-bons, a slurry of sparkling snowflakes, and one jovial Mother Ginger.
*Ballet slippers are suggested.
Play Partner: Sydney Tsao, ballet instructor; grown-ups
Sydney Tsao has studied ballet, jazz, lyrical and modern dance for 10 years. She has played numerous roles in three productions of The Nutcracker, ranging from mouse to snowflake.
Grown-up Tip: While your child is learning new ballet twirls, skills like balancing on one foot, skipping, and jumping forward are also being mastered. Achieving these gross motor milestones early will help as interest peaks for later engagement in playing group sports.
