Pretend City Field Trips

Merging fun with learning is what we do best at Pretend City Children’s Museum. Designed to align with the California State Content Standards and Preschool Learning Foundations, Pretend City’s fieldtrips will engage children preschool through third grade.

Our educational and fun-packed fieldtrips truly encourage young children to develop a love for learning. Our fieldtrips are designed for preschool through fourth grade students.

Explore With Us! Facilitated by Pretend City

In this dynamic program, Pretend City staff will facilitate a 30-minute interactive lesson designed to enhance classroom teaching. This lesson is a community themed lesson that begins with an introduction to community discussing what a community is and who makes up the community. The lesson then goes into the tools of the trade and discussion around all of the different careers that make up our community. Is there one community helper who is the best? After watching a brief news segment in which students witness a Pretend City earthquake, children will be able to use their critical thinking skills to determine who the community hero (everyone!) is.

Dragons Are Not Allowed! Facilitated by Orange County Fire Authority

* Please note this option is only offered on Mondays

Angela Garbiso works with the Orange County Fire Authority as their Community Relations and Education Specialist. Angela will share a story about fire safety called, “No Dragons for Tea” by Jean Pendziwol and Martine Gourbault. It’s a unique way to introduce a very important subject. Through this educational interactive story, students gain more knowledge about fire, fire safety, risk reduction, water safety, basic first aid, and more.

Facilitated by the Irvine Police Department:

1. Bullying: The Irvine Police Department’s field trip focuses on empowering children by teaching them what constitutes bullying, how to recognize different types of bullying, and how to respond to bullies in different situations.

2. Personal Safety: The personal safety field trip provides children some simple tools that help them stay safe in their community. Topics discussed, include: appropriate use of 911, knowing your personal information, keeping parents informed of whereabouts, stranger awareness, using the ‘Buddy System’, staying in familiar places, being aware of surroundings, safety rules when home alone, and having the confidence to speak up or leave an uncomfortable situation.
